Michinoku Coastal Trail Hike: Miyako – Ofunato

Ofunato City, Iwate Prefecture, was severely damaged by the forest fire in February 2025. In this tour, we’d like to walk this area and look with our eyes how bad the natural disaster damaged the forests and towns but also observe reviving activities by the local people.

We will walk the Rasei Pass and the Ryori Pass, a part of the Hama-kaido, an older trail thatused to be the main road between Sendai and the coast towns.

We will also visit memorial buildings, the Shiome Museum and the Tsunami MemorialMuseum, to those lost in the 2011 tsunami.

•Transportation expenses for the whole itinerary from and to Tokyo Station (train, bus, taxi).
•Accommodation fees in a single occupancy for Day 3, 4 and 5 and double occupancy for Day 1 and 2.
•Meals are listed on the itinerary (6 breakfasts, 6 lunches, 5 dinners)
•Tour conductor: Toshi Harada, the itinerary manager and English interpreter guide, will accompany the entire tour.

•Local guide accompanies if the participants are 6 or more.

•Same-day luggage delivery fee: Luggage that are not needed for hiking will be delivered from from accommodation to accommodation on the same day.
•Insurance fee: Insurance fee for special guarantees (death, disability, personal belongings, etc.) specified in the contract.
